Embraer EMB-120 Brasilia
« on: January 15, 2013, 05:35:37 AM »
I have attempted multiple downloads of the EMB-120 and have yet to find one Michelle likes.  The original one for FSX listed on the "Fully Supported" page does not seem to be on AVSIM anymore and cannot be found anywhere else I have looked.  Admittedly, I only have a subscription at www.simviation.com and www.flyawaysimulation.com, but one can't be expected to subscribe to every clearinghouse.

I have searched this forum for everything "Brasilia" on this board and came up empty.  Can someone help by posting a correct link or detailing how I might get Michelle to accept what I have via hacking the aircraft.cfg file, if possible?

Thank you.

G'day ??

I had a look around and found this download link for the Eric Cantu EMB120 http://www.findthatzipfile.com/search-16363892-hZIP/winrar-winzip-download-emb120-2-zip.htm.
The panel by Marcus Gama can be found here http://www.fsdownload.com/modules.php?name=Downloads&d_op=ns_getit&cid=102&lid=4966&type=url#get

I installed the panel and then modified the aircraft.cfg file as per the readme.txt, and all was fine generally, Michelle recognised the aircraft and I executed all the checklists to Cruise (ran out of time, so I'l have another crack later)  ::)

A couple of points which need further investigation, Michelle expects to find a sixth panel - "Warning Panel" and that doesn't exist with this panel that I downloaded.
I had a lot of trouble getting the avionics switched on (I perhaps should read the manual for the panel), anyhow I got them running in the end.
A few other odds and ends...........but a little more time reading and testing might resolve these issue.

PS...........
A second attempt shows that it is necessary to follow the panel operating manual checklist for power up.  The fuel pumps must be on and fuel flow on before starting the APU, which needs to be done manually.  When the APU generator is switched on the avionics will function.

Off to bed now, will give the entire checklist a run through sometime tomorrow  ;)

Hi Paul and Calvin,

Thank you very much Paul for trying to assist Calvin. Regrettably, the aircraft and panel was taken down from avsim.com as you and Calvin have discovered and reported.

I have been trying to reach Eric Cantu for some time, without success. I don't like putting these aircraft on our servers w/o the author's permission, and it also has the additional drawback of perhaps missing some later releases.

Nonetheless, I am in possession of the original aircraft and panel, and have since updated the site:

http://www.itsyourplane.com/html/emb120.asp

The aircraft was in fact updated, so it requires a new IYP release (4.1.0.307) in order to operate this aircraft.

Please let me know how things go guys.

Regards,

Robert

G'day Robert

Thanks for that, I'll reinstall the aircraft and let you know how it goes after I update IYP.

It'll have to wait however as I have to go off to work in about 30mins.  :(

I am in the process with the new files as we speak, but Michelle still doesn't want to accept the Brasilia.  I must be doing something wrong, but I am wanting to see if I can ferret it out first.

Paul,

Did Michelle "accept" your Brasilia or did she tell you it was not fully supported?

Robert, can you check to see if I am "hung" on the server.  I am using .306 and I have cycled the IYP app six times, but no peep that there is an update.  I was offered the update earlier, but I accidentally clicked on "No."  I did search the website and the forum for this, but found nothing.
Please advise.

G'day Calvin

Yes, Michelle "accepted" the aircraft.

I'll install the aircraft and panel files I downloaded from the IYP site tonight and I'll report back.

Well, I can't get Michelle past waiting for the APU EGT to rise in the pre-start even when the APU is running an the EGT is halfway in the green.  Don't know where to go from here?

Given I did a fresh install, updated to .307 and followed the instructions to the letter, I don't understand what could be different between your install and mine and yet Michelle likes you better?

G'day Robert and Calvin

Just completed a short flight with the EMB-120 with the latest version of IYP.
Michelle gets full marks.  I didn't touch one switch, knob or control ..........it was all carried out by M. to perfection.
Executed all the checklists from "cold'n'dark" to shutdown.  Not one glitch ;D

If I'm picky, there were a couple of things:
Michelle sometimes refers to the APU as "appyou", but not always.
Fuel loading showed the aux. tanks being filled to 271.5%.......but I'm sure with a little training this will be corrected.
Maintaining taxi speed got a little fast at one point, but a second attempt (it was a long taxi) was much better.

So Robert, I reckon you've done a great job 8).............sorry Calvin, but as you can see it all works just fine.  I think you've got a little homework to do ;)

One last thing Robert......I uploaded the ACARS for this flight.  It was planned from KCVG-KATL, but I did a "U" turn 18 miles out and an ILS on RWY 18L.
Cheers
Paul

Hi Paul,

Thanks very much for the report.

REGARDING: APU

Try turning OFF the Speech Bar... "Disable Speech Bar"

For some strange reason (which I have yet to identify), the popping up of the Speech bar adversely affects the SAPI Text-To-Speech on some platforms!

REGARDING: Fuel

It takes a number of flights for Michelle to "average out" the fuel consumption.

REGARDING: but I did a "U" turn 18 miles out and an ILS on RWY 18L.

That should not adversely affect anything.

I looked at your PIREP and all seems fine!

Warm regards,

Robert

C U Saturday!

Hi Paul.

I never had any question the issue was on my end and Robert has done a great job, but the fact remains I am still having trouble.  So, the task at hand is to make sure my installation "work just fine" as yours.  Can you be specific what "homework" you are referring to?  You won't hurt my feelings.

Another thing which could prove instructive is if you could upload your "EMB120" folder.  I have a program which can do a side x side comparison and will highlight any inequalities.  This will allow me to learn from whatever mistakes I must have made.

Thanks for the help.

Hi Calvin,

Did you download the FSX panel?

Did you follow the instructions in the README.TXT file... namely?

THIS PANEL WAS DESIGNED TO FSX. IT WILL NOT WORK WITH FS9.

THIS PANEL IS UNDER DEVELOPMENT AT BETA STAGE. SO, MAYBE YOU WILL FIND SOME PROBLEMS USING IT. FELL FREE TO CONTACT ME AT marcus.gama@gmail.com TO REPORT BUGS AND WISHES TO IMPROVE THIS PANEL.

This is a freeware panel to be used with the Embraer 120 model created by Erick Cantu (recommended). The zip file only includes the files necessary to use the panel. To download the exterior model, please, look at AVSIM.com the correct file. When I wrote this document, the model could be found at:

http://library.avsim.net/download.php?DLID=95277

In the file 'Operating Manual' (in English and Brazilian Portuguese) you can find more instructions on how to install and how to use the panel. Anyway, summarized instructions were included in this document about how to install the panel on your simulator.

===========================================================================
Installation:

   1. Unzip "Painel E120 vx.xxx"
   2. Copy "E120.CAB" file in the FS\Gauges\ general folder (normally, C:\Program Files\Microsoft Games\Microsoft Flight Simulator X\Gauges)
        3. Copy "Panel.E120" folder, "embraer_120_ref.htm" and "embraer_120_check.htm" in FS\Aircraft\Choosenairplane\ (normally, C:\Program Files\Microsoft Games\Microsoft Flight Simulator X\SimObjects\Airplanes\OSS_EMB120)
   4. In the "aircraft.cfg" file of the "Choosenairplane" change 'panel', 'kb_checklists' and 'kb_reference' parameters in the desired group [fltsim.x]:

   [fltsim.x]
        ...
   panel=E120
        ...
        kb_checklists=embraer_120_check
        kb_reference=embraer_120_ref
        ...

You're ready to fly!
===========================================================================
IMPORTANT:

This package is presented as is, and will have no support from the author other than the installation instructions included.  This is NOT a comprehensive package that is supported by a organized group, rather a public gift to the many simmers who like to fly the Brazilia airplane.

LEGAL:

It's freeware. Don't sell it, don't put it where it can be sold. This includes packaged CD's sold on eBay, sites that charge to download files or have memberships, etc.

This panel and all documents included are licensed under GPL and FDL. A copy off all legal terms was included in 'Operating Manual.pdf'.
===========================================================================

This panel was developed and designed by Marcus Gama (marcus.gama@gmail.com)

Please advise.

For all I'm worth, but my health effects could certainly have got in the way.  I was in quite a bit of pain when I was manipulating the mouse.

For the record I downloaded all files from IYP, not the original referenced source link.

There was one discrepancy I saw, but I have no idea if it is germane...

The path quoted above was...

Quote
C:\Program Files\Microsoft Games\Microsoft Flight Simulator X\SimObjects\Airplanes\OSS_EMB120)

My path is...

C:\FSX\SimObjects\Airplanes\EMB120

Could the aircraft folder name difference be a problem?

Thanks for the help.  Let me know if you need anything else or need me to do something.
